For me, nutrition and fueling has always been a weakness in racing and training. I tended to never take any fluid or nutrition intake during my long runs and forget about hydrating during anything short distance. For my last marathon, I knew I had to introduce fuel during my training (otherwise there would be no way of completing the marathon in the time frame I wanted) and it really made me realize what I was lacking by not hydrating appropriately.
This really isn’t rocket science, but – hey – staying hydrated is important when running. Who knew?! Tailwind’s new Rapid Hydration line is focused on hydrating to achieve optimal electrolyte and Vitamin C levels to replenish what you lose when you break a sweat. It’s like a natural body boost that also supports your immune system.
The Rapid Hydration flavor line-up includes:
- Strawberry Lemonade
- Lemon Lime
Even with these fruit-forward concoctions, I did not find the taste to be overwhelmingly sweet (see ingredients below). I like sweet drinks as much as the next person, but having a more subdued flavor profile really makes these much easier to swallow – literally.
Rapid Hydration brings you flavors lightly sweetened with real cane sugar, and absolutely no artificial sweeteners like stevia, monk fruit, or sucralose (thank goodness – I find it hard to stomach most of these). Packed with electrolytes and a touch of sugar, this line kickstarts your body’s hydration process, absorbing nearly three times more water than regular H2O alone.
Here’s a straightforward breakdown of the ingredients: Cane sugar provides natural sweetness, while natural flavors give a clean, light taste. Sea salt, citric acid, and sodium citrate work together to balance electrolytes. Potassium salt enhances hydration, and vitamin C acts as a natural antioxidant and immune system support. Additionally, calcium carbonate and magnesium oxide contribute essential minerals to the mix.
As I mentioned above, these are not as sweet as some options out there. This is due to the light sweetening agent of cane sugar as opposed to overly flavored sports drinks out there. One packet has 45 calories.
