It’s summer and your running wardrobe needs some freshening up! Run Oregon has been lucky to try out several pieces of active wear from PRISMSPORT a New York based athletic apparel company made by and for women. No one knows women’s bodies better than women! Several of us lady bloggers have been able to test out pieces by PRISMSPORT, which means a range of body types and activity levels can honestly provide insight and recommendations to many of the company’s offerings.
You can read blogger Teresa and Annette’s opinions here, and Kelly and Geli’s opinions here. Below, are my own opinions about two pieces: the Mobility 7/8 Legging and the Freedom Tank.
- Product: Freedom Tank – Royal, in sizes that fit 0-14. Colors: White, Black, Slate (grey).
- Price: $48
- Specs: Loose weave 92% polyester/ 8%spandex. Naturally wicking, soft drape.
Freedom Tank
Impressions: I LOVE this tank. This style is a staple in my active wear wardrobe. It is flattering, cute and comfy and performs well. It truly wicks sweat and won’t stick to you. I sweat a lot during my work outs and my sweat is salty-there were no streaks at all. It isn’t tight in all the wrong places (think: arm pits or tummy area) and looks good while running and at the gym. One day, I even wore it with jeans to dinner with a friend under a jacket and you couldn’t tell it was a “workout” top, because the weave of the fabric is so fine. The color is trendy and classic and looks good with solid bottoms or patterned.
Bonus: this tank is advertised as longer which means it will keep you covered while in downward dog at yoga class or if you have a long torso like me.
Sizing tip: It is very true to size, so you will be safe with your “normal” street size. For reference, I’m 5’9″ between a size 6-8, and a medium was perfect for me After several washes and wears, the color remained vibrant and the shape stayed intact. Of course you want to wash it as you would other active wear: with cool water either on a gentle cycle or hand-wash, and hang or lay flat to dry. While the price may seem a little on the expensive side, you can be assured this will last a long time if you follow the washing instructions. This is a high-quality piece made to perform. Mobility 7/8 Legging
Impressions: I was a little skeptical before pulling these on. I had tried the 7/8 leggings before in another style, and they weren’t for me. However, these hit a home run! I really enjoyed the mobility pockets on the side, because they weren’t just stylish-they were functional. I could put my car key in them without fear of it bouncing or sliding out, just as securely as the “invisible” pocket on the waistband. The leggings stayed in place while running and didn’t slip-which is important to me, especially with the ample derriere I have!
Bonus: while this fabric stretches with you, it won’t be too sheer in the wrong places.
Sizing tip: I took Emily’s recommendation and went with a size small, since I’m between sizes. Normally I would have got with a medium, but I was glad I took her advice. The black side panel is slimming and cute. While the pattern was a little out of the norm for me to choose, I’m glad I did. I need to not always play it safe with fashion, and decided to take a risk. Plus, it helps me to really channel my inner cobra or Bhujangasna in yoga class.
Shopping online can be a gamble, but I love it. The convenience is the biggest draw for me. Sure, many companies have seemingly wonderful return policies if you don’t like your purchase, but nothing is more frustrating than having to return something because it doesn’t fit as advertised. Case in point: I must say that I was very impressed with the level of service and dedication to their customers, owners Emily Vitale and Lori Florio give each individual. I first was able to try out a few pieces from the brand’s shop a few months back and I really struggled with finding a good fit for my body type. When a something wasn’t right for me, Emily sat down with the garment and made recommendations on different sizing options so that I could be happy. When you are looking to invest in quality-made active wear that you can trust to last, look no further than PRISMSPORT.
