Race Preview: 2017 Tough As Nails Trail Runs (5k and 10 Mile)

If you love a good trail run and some truly scenic views, head out to Medford for the Tough As Nails Trail Runs presented by Oregon’s first running club Southern Oregon Runners on Saturday May 13th. You will have two distances to choose from depending on which challenge you are up for. There is a 5k and a 10 Mile Trail Mountain Run and both races start at Prescott Park off Hillcrest Road in East Medford. You will loop all around the stunning Roxy Ann Peak on this adventure.

The 5k course starts at the 3rd gate and along the main road around the mountain and past a quarry before looping back around and finishing in the picnic area. The 10 Miler route, which has new trails to explore this year,  also starts at the 3rd gate and you will follow the backside of Roxy Ann and pass the rock quarry. You’ll stay on the main road awhile before you reach a marked turaround. You’ll turn right up onto the Mardrone Trail and will take some rocky trail switchbacking all the way to the peak. You’ll get on a different trail and come down the north side of Roxy Ann and out at the picnic area. You’ll take the road back down to the 2nd gate and take Mardrone Trail again and eventually wind back around to the finish line at the picnic area of Prescott Park. You can get more details about the course on the website.

After completing this race, there will be donuts and beer at the park waiting for you as well as some live music by The Brothers Reed from 10:00AM to 11:00AM. Stay awhile and relax!!
