Sliding into Salomon with the Aero Glide

Salomon has some experience when it comes to gear for the outdoors. Running, hiking, skiing, snowboarding – all covered and all quality. To this day, their hydration vests are some of my very favorites for long trail runs.

So I was really stoked to get the opportunity to test out their new Aero Glide shoes, which are a great option for an everyday road shoe. They look super cushy (which sometimes equates to heavy,) but are somehow surprisingly lightweight, and I couldn’t wait to take them for a spin.

Looks:

You never know what you’ll find when you open that shoebox, and I was pleasantly surprised to see a gorgeous lavender pair of shoes peeking out behind the tissue paper. “Orchid Bloom” is the official color listed on the website and they are definitely a delicate violet shade of purple.

All of the women’s shoes in this collection have a Spring/Summer vibe and that’s just fine by me. These will absolutely bring all the compliments.

Function:

These shoes are meant to be a great everyday runner. I can see lacing these up for all my weekday runs, and they’ll easily keep my stride fresh and bouncy. There’s nothing terribly flashy about them, but they are of consistent design in the sole, the style, and the fit.

Construction:

As mentioned already, these shoes are lightweight despite the nice cushion in the sole. They feel very thin but that’s a plus when my feet start to get hot. The upper is light and airy, though the tongue and collar are a bit thicker and offer a secure fit around your ankle.

Fit:

Reviews online seem to indicate that the Aero Glide run large, with many consumers even recommending a size down from your original running shoe size. I chose to get the same size I get in all running shoes, which is a full size larger than my normal, everyday shoe.

While in hindsight I might have gone only a half size larger in this shoe vs a full size, I don’t find that they slide around on my feet. I feel like they look larger on my feet than some of my other shoes, but they feel really good. I think that they are wider than many of my other running shoes, and having a good-sized toebox is always a plus for me personally. If you do have a narrow foot, these might not be the shoe for you.

These shoes aren’t as cushy as I thought they’d be when I saw them, but they do have some great energy return. I think I could run a whole lot of miles in these and feel pretty comfortable.

Overall:

Cushy AND light…BOTH? Where do I sign up? These two features are the best of two worlds. Not only are these shoes pretty, they are Salomons, which means quality and function come into play. I’m looking forward to lacing these up several days a week.
