OMG! FWIW, the Siskiyou Out Back (SOB) is Just Around the Corner FYI

Gosh. I sure wish I could participate in this event! For 23 awesome years, the Siskiyou Out Back Trail Run, lovingly referred to as the “SOB,” has taken place. This race features a 100k, a 50 Miler, a 50k and a 15k trail run, beginning at the Mount Ashland Lodge, which is situated at an impressive 6,500 foot elevation.

Important to note, so I’m mentioning it straight away: this race has a limited entry field, and the 15k has already sold out. There are still some spaces available for the other distances (open to racers 18+ only unless prior permission granted), so if you want to participate this year, do not wait to get registered!!

Here is the scoop on this awesome race. The SOB takes place on Saturday, July 9th this year. Start and finish line is located at the Mount Ashland Lodge. The courses, on sweet single track, travel along the famous Pacific Crest Trail and offer some stunning views of Mt. Shasta, McLaughlin, and the Cascade and Siskiyou mountain ranges. Definitely a sight for sore eyes.

Total course elevation for the 50k is 4,200 feet, with the 50 miler boasting an impressive 8,400 feet of climbing and lastly, the 100k has an elevation of 10,500 feet to contend with.

Registration fees are very reasonable when you consider the rising costs of races. Remember that the 100k is sold out already but has a wailist, and it’s possible that the other distances will sell out as well! The cost of the 100k is $185, the 50 Miler is $140, the 50k is $120, and the 15k is $50.

Ultra distances are all eligible for a ceramic SOB finisher mug and additional mugs and shirts will be available for purchase.

The SOB is a profit organization non-benefit that will benefit non-profit organizations. Last year, the SOB contributed to Ashland Trails Outdoor SchoolFamily Nurturing CenterSiskiyou Mountain ClubCome Back Alive a Ukrainian non-profit, and Mt. Ashland Ski Area.

The course maps are impressive. Check them out – they really speak for themselves.

Please make note that this event is cupless, so please plan to bring a drinking vessel of some sort. You will also be provided with a collapsible cup which could come in handy at the aid stations. If you haven’t been to city of Ashland, Oregon, you definitely have to check it out either prior to or after (or both!) the event. It’s an awesome city.
