So .. I feel a little foolish. As a writer for Run Oregon, I’d like to think I know a thing or two about gear and shoes since I’m afforded the tremendous luxury of reviewing things on a regular basis. But I never got the memo about Skechers and their entry into the running community and I feel like I should have known about this.
Not only are Skechers emerging as a real player in the running world, they are the official footwear for one of my greatest heroes in the running community, the one and only Meb Keflezighi. He is an apparel sponsor for the company and will be through at least 2023. Meb’s word is golden to this fangirl. And having reviewed my very first pair of GO RUN Skechers, I can see why Meb stands behind this brand.
Looks
I received the Skechers GO RUN Ride 10 shoes in the mauve color. They are also available in light gray, a black and white combo, and blue. I wouldn’t typically go for the “girliest” color, but they are less pink than they looked on the website. I have received several compliments on them at the gym. These shoes look a lot different than the “street shoe” look that Sketchers had in the old days. Dare I say, these look like actual LEGIT running shoes, with a nice cushy sole and quality material.
Function
Skechers has introduced a responsive, well-cushioned shoe. The GO RUN Ride 10 is lightweight, with ultra breathable hyper mono mesh and a polyester upper. These shoes would be best for a neutral foot that needs to go the extra mile. I personally believe I’d be as comfortable in these for a 20 miler as I would a 2 miler.
Construction
One of the things that is unique about Skechers is that the outsole features Goodyear® Rubber Technology which means better traction, stability, and durability. The shoes also feature a removable Arch Fit insole that helps mold to your foot and is podiatrist-certified to provide the best arch support. Skechers also provide what’s referred to as hyper burst cushioning in the midsole, with spherically-shaped cells created using a ‘Super Critical’ process. What do all these things equate to? A top-notch feel from toe to heel for your entire run.
Fit
When I put these on for the first time, I was immediately impressed. When you know, you know. And these felt great as soon as I slid my heel in. Some shoes feel stiff the first time you put them on, but these felt comfortable from the very get-go. However, they felt very stable on my feet, and the quality was apparent. As a runner who prefers a wider fit, I feel like there is a lot of room in the toebox and my feet can breathe really well in these.
Overall/For Consideration
I need shoes that I can not only run for hours in as a distance runner, but that as a personal trainer and running coach “in the field” for multiple hours at a time, will stay comfortable all day. I can honestly say that my feet felt as fresh in these at the end of a day as they did at the beginning. The podiatrist-designed shape of the Skechers GO RUN Ride 10 was developed with 20 years of data and 120,000 unweighted foot scans, and that research cannot be ignored.
