The Salem Run’ucopia has become a Salem Thanksgiving Day tradition for many Salemites as they try to mitigate the amount of calories that they’ll inevitably consume later in the day. This year they are offering a 1K kids run, 5K, 10K, and 15K race distances to allow you to decide how much food you’re willing to put back in that calorie bank. Thanksgiving Day races are always fun due to the festive nature, and knowing that people from all different backgrounds will be there as a way to get out and have fun as well as looking forward to that turkey feast later in the day.
The courses are all starting and finishing at Riverfront Park with the 5K being a nice and flat in and out route as well as the 10K. The 15K is similar but does take you off a short dirt trail before you make your way back to the pavilion. If you’re worried about getting lost, don’t be. There are volunteers along the way to make sure you get back home and are on time for that early turkey dinner!
This years charity partners for the race are the National Exchange Club and Outward Church and their Thanksgiving Meal Program. Both are great organizations operating locally here in Salem, with options to donate by clicking the links.
