If you’re up for a trail adventure this spring, the 2019 Shotgun Trail Blast will be on April 6th at the Shotgun Creek Recreation Area which is northwest of Marcola, OR. This Level 32 Racing event will have plenty of distances to consider, as there’s a 50k, a 25k, a 10k, and a 5k.
This race has it all .. Mud, hills, water, trees .. it’s all there. Not to mention the views on this single-track trail race are pretty enough to keep you moving. You’ll want to park in the Shotgun Creek Campground parking lot rather than on the side of the road on Shotgun Creek. All of the races incorporate the use of a 5.2 mile loop, which can be seen here. The 25k race will tackle this loop 3 times and the 50k race will race this loop 6 times. The 5k starts on the 5.2 mile loop for the first section before heading downhill to the finish, (see that course map here.) Finally, the 10k has a ½ mile out and back on the route before hitting the 5.2 mile section, as shown here. Elevation gain and loss is about 566 feet per loop. The scenery, as described on the website, will be “thickly wooded, have several streams with rock bridges to cross, and abundant wildlife.”
The cost of this race is $50 for the 50k, $35 for the 25k, and $25 for the 10k or 5k. There’s a $5 discount for youth (17 & under) and those ages 60 & over. Tech shirts are not included but can be purchased for $14. The cutoff for the shirts is March 28th and it’s first come first serve.
You can register for the race online or in person at Run Hub NW (515 High Street) through April 5th at noon or on race day for an additional $10 from 7:30AM to 9:45AM at the staging area of the Shotgun Trail.
Stay for a fun post-race celebration which will have food and drinks available. There will also be a fireplace in the picnic shelter to keep you toasty. There will be awards throughout the day. Custom wood medallions will go to the top 3 men and women in each distance and age group. There will also be random drawings for some fun prizes.
