As a mother, I know it can be a thankless and isolating job. Many women need a little bit of help to get through the emotional toll that comes with taking care of children, and in celebration of Mother’s Day, the 4th annual Miles for Mothers 5k/10k on May 13th at the American Legion Park in Redmond, OR specifically raises funds to subsidize the cost of counseling for mothers who need a support system.
Both the 5k and 10k races will be out and back courses that will start and end at American Legion Park and run the scenic Dry Canyon trail. There is also a 1k Kids Fun Run which will circle around the American Legion sports complex and up the canyon before finishing along the sports fields.
There will be a silent auction open to all community members from 8:00AM to 10:15AM and there will be awards for the top male and female as well as to the top 3 male and female finishers in each age category for the 5k and 10k races. Ribbons will be given to all kids in the 1k. All moms will receive a special gift and all participants will get some great swag and food to celebrate their finish at the race.

Registration Cost: 5k and 10K are $25, 1k Kids Fun Run is $10. Registration ends May 10th at 11:59PM PDT. All participants will receive a shirt (size and availability not guaranteed after April 28th.)

If you want a different but equally great cause to race for, you could head out to Prineville for the Prineville Hotshot Memorial 5k/10k which benefits the Wildland Firefighter Foundation and the families of those who have been lost.
The 5k race will take you through the streets of Prineville and you have the option of doing a walk or a run. The 10k will be primarily single and double track trail which will take you through Juniper woodland on a loop which showcases the community of Prineville.
After the race is over, you can celebrate by attending the BBQ for some great food and beer supplied by Ochoco Brewing Company. The BBQ begins at 11:30AM and there will be the awards ceremony at 12:00PM, so bring a little cash and enjoy a burger and some music.
