Small Race Preview: 3rd Annual Newport Mother’s Day Run 5K

Are you hoping to sleep in on Mother’s Day?  Head on out to the beach the morning before and celebrate with the sounds of the waves crashing on the beach and the smell of salt in the air.

The 3rd Annual Newport Mother’s Day Run (held in Newport, Oregon) is held on Saturday, May 13th at the Newport Preforming Arts Center.  Check out the new categories vying for prizes this year.  Along with the overall female/male and overall masters female/male prizes, participants can compete in the Mum & I category, so moms and daughters, start thinking up your team name now!  Grab grandma and sign up for the Three Generations of Women Category.  The finish times of each teammate will be added together and the fastest average team time wins.

The flat and fast course is scenic and will take you on a paved route through the historic Nye Beach, down to the Yaquina Bay State Park before heading back to the Newport Preforming Arts Center.

After the race, enjoy live music and food.  If you are making a weekend of it, be sure to checkout Discover Newport for the best places to eat, sleep, take a trip off the beaten path or on it with a hike, places to shop or enjoy art.

About Robin York (146 Articles)
Robin grew up as a couch potato and did everything she could to get out of exercise, until one day a good friend would not stop talking about this fun 5k race she was doing. Finally Robin got off the couch and trained for this "fun" race using C25K (couch to 5k program). After crossing that first finish line, she kept going and became a "runner". After losing 80 lbs, gaining health, a love of being active and setting a healthy example for her husband and kids, she thinks she'll stick with this whole "running thing".
