Fabulous February: Posture & breathing check

Today’s tip: Set a timer on your phone to go off every 10 minutes for an hour, or every 20 minutes for two hours. When the timer goes off, check your posture and adjust so that you are sitting with a straight back and relaxed shoulders.

The frequency will help increase your awareness of how you’re sitting, and if you do this a few days in a row, hopefully you’ll have to do less to correct your posture each time.

In addition to the posture check, when your timer goes off, take a deep breath or two. This will help your muscles relax so that when you adjust your posture, your muscles aren’t so tight.

A deep breath can also help you focus on the task at hand. You may also find yourself yawning less, since a yawn is essentially the body involuntarily requesting more oxygen.

We started the Run Oregon blog in February 2007, because felt like running in Oregon and SW Washington deserved more positive coverage. We also wanted to level the playing field so that small, non-profit races could compete with big events; and to support local race organizers.
