It seems every year the ghoulish creatures known as zombies become a little more popular. Why the shambling, brain consuming undead are so interesting is up to debate, the clever concept of mixing them with a race has experienced some success. Now happening for the second year, the Sheridan Zombie 5k on October 25th hopes to tap into that.
Proceeds from this event are collected by the Sheridan Chamber of Commerce, to help fund local events. It starts at the Japanese school, and online registration is $25 before October 17th. That does include a shirt, unlike day of registration, which is five dollars more. You can register online here. Apparently the idea for this event sprang from the local dance crew performing Thriller during Sheridan Days. The interest and excitement somehow transformed into the inspiration for a one day Zombie festival.
The race course itself will wind through the northern side of Sheridan on paved roads. There will be at least a few of the undead along the course to ogle or escape, depending on your interest level. While water and a snack will be provided at the end, this is an untimed fun run. There will be other activities later, including a zombie prom. You can find out more at the official Facebook event page here.
