As runners, parents typically try to encourage their children in participating in their sport. Many road races offer kids races, but the transition from the half mile “kids run” to the full distance 5k often doesn’t get bridged easily. Each summer on the last Saturday of July, the Wilsonville Kiwanis Club organizes the Kids Fun Run, which is open and free to all children from preschool age to middle school, and the running distance depends on the age of the little runners.
The Fun Run takes place at the Wood Middle School running track on Wilsonville Road on Saturday, July 25th. Pre-registration is available online, and each participant who registers by July 20th will receive a t-shirt, run number, and free lunch (as supplies last for later registrants). Registration is free, but a tax-deductible donation to the Kiwanis Club is suggested.
The registration table opens at 8am, and day-of-race registrations will be available. There is no limit to how many kids can participate, but there is a limit to the number of available shirts. At 9am, the opening parade starts, followed by the opening ceremonies and the mascot race. The first kids race starts at 10am, and different ages will run every 15 minutes.
In addition to the run, there will be other activity booths set up by vendors, such as the Legacy Meridian Park Medical Center Wellness Pavilion, face painting, the Tualatin Valley Fire & Rescue Fire Safety House, and much more! Families can also take trolley rides from the event around town.
Parking is available at Wood Middle School, Valley Christian Church across the street, and at the Wilsonville WES Station, with a free trolley ride from the WES station to the event.
