Run Oregon Garage Sale – A community Facebook running marketplace

Run-Oregon-Logo-SquareA few months ago, I was staring at a few running items that were floating around my garage. A running belt, a couple of running books I purchased when training for my first marathon, and a pair of running shorts I was too embarrassed to wear (white thighs anyone?) were a couple of things tossed into a box.

I considered a Goodwill drop off, but that seemed unnecessary for items that would likely be appreciated by a runner. So I, in the midst of an idea and sleep deprivation, created the “Official Run Oregon Garage Sale” page on Facebook. My thought was to have a place where our Run Oregon readers could go to post / look for new or used running items – either for free or a cheap price. Think of it as a Craigslist for runners only.

That idea never really came full circle, as we moved over to our new blog and got lost in the duties that came with that. It wasn’t until Maryalicia reminded me that this page was in existence and a loyal reader, Brianna Oke, asked to join that I remembered it was still out there.

The shorts that started it all. These are available for free in the Run Oregon Garage Sale Facebook group.

I wasn’t sure how to proceed, but have now just decided that the group will be opened to you guys and we will see how it spreads. Maybe it will blossom into a cool place to find some running gear without needing to spend and arm and a leg. Maybe it will fizzle out and die. Either way, we are taking action and seeing where it leads. The page will only move forward and “succeed” if you guys out there take advantage and post stuff yourself.

The rules are simple (and really greatly unmoderated by Run Oregon Admins):

– This is place where Run Oregon readers can post NEW or GENTLY used running-related items for purchase or (even better) free.

– This should not be a capitalistic venture in re-selling. Posts can be deleted at administrator’s discretion.

– Run Oregon is NOT responsible for issues stemming from transactions. Utilize at your own risk!

That’s really about it. We hope this is something that will benefit you guys, but it remains to be seen. Give it a shot if you have some gear you are looking to part with. Request to join and I will let you in!
