On the Feet of the GOAT! Injinji introduces the Courtney Dauwalter Collection

As a writer for Run Oregon, I feel very privileged to get to review gear that I already love. I was stoked to recently review the Artist Designed series from one of my all time favorite sock companies, Injinji so I was extra thrilled when they offered us a chance to review the Courtney Crew toesocks, which were designed in collaboration with elite ultrarunner Courtney Dauwalter.

I’ve been following Courtney for years and though I’ll never be able to run even a mile at her speed (especially on trails!) I was happy to get my feet in her socks!

I also received a pair of Outdoor Midweight Mini-Crew Wool socks which are my favorite length for Injinji toesocks. Though these socks don’t have a pattern quite as fun as the Courtney Crew socks, they are just as functional and will go with pretty much all of my running clothes.

Looks

I received two pairs of the Courtney Crew socks in some pretty awesome patterns. The Solar Slice pattern features watermelons and limes in a cheery yellow backdrop, while the Rind Fade pattern showcases a splattering of greens, yellows, and oranges that feels more reminiscent of Fall in my opinion.

These were actually my two favorite patterns of the four available, though the Hardrock and Moab patterns are pretty awesome too.

The Outdoor Midweight Mini-Crew Wool socks I received came in a black and gray color that’s similar to the Onyx color of the Ultra Run Mini Crew socks. Though this color isn’t currently showing up on the website for the Midweight Mini-Crew Wool, you can still order them in a different pattern in Slate, Forest, or Garnet.

Function & Construction

Injinji is known for their blister-preventing five-toe design, and the Courtney Crew is no exception. The anatomical shape encourage the natural splay of your toes, and the benefit of having each toe individually wrapped will make a world of difference when it comes to the friction experienced with running. No skin-on-skin chafing here!

These Courtney Crew socks are designed for the trail, though I think they could be used for any adventure on your feet. They feature midweight cushioning and the moisture-managing fibers will wick the sweat away and keep your feet dry on even the longest of runs or hikes. Injinji toesocks also have great arch support.

The Midweight Mini-Crew Wool socks are described as “one of the hardest-working hiking socks out there,” and I tend to agree. These were built for ultra running and spending long periods of time on your feet with that five-toe technology that ensure blister-control, excellent arch support, and total foot utilization over rugged terrain.

And you can’t go wrong with Merino wool, as this miracle material is both soft and tough at the same time and will always keep your feet dry and warm with built-in temperature regulation. Wool is also odor resistant and Injinji makes sure that their wool meets the Responsible Wool Standard (RWS.)

Fit

The Courtney Crew collection is only available in a crew (mid-calf) length, which is the ideal length for keeping the dirt and debris out when the elements get a little dirty. They are available in both women’s sizes (in XS/S and M/L) and in unisex sizing for wider or larger feet (S, M, L, and XL.) Check out the sizing chart on the website to see where you fall, but the XS/S in women’s fit my size 8 feet fine.

The Midweight Mini-Crew Wool socks came to me in a unisex size S, and these also feel great. They hug my feet and don’t slide around. The length on these is just above the ankle, and they are the perfect length for all my adventuring this fall!

All of the Injinji socks I’ve owned are soft and stretchy and there are no annoying seams that rub my feet the wrong way. You can tell that they are good quality socks as soon as you get them on.

Overall

Though there are other toesock brands out there, the Injinji socks have always personally lasted me a very long time. I can’t even honestly remember ever getting a hole in any of these socks.

You can’t go wrong with Injinji and the benefit of no blisters is worth it’s weight in gold when you spend as much time on your feet as I do. Even better when the socks are cute, fun, and functional all at the same time!
