Skratch Labs Goes Big: A Better Way to Keep the Chews Coming

In the world of running, having fueling options at the ready is pretty much a necessity. Energy gels, wafers, electrolytes, bars, gummies—whatever works for you, having something to keep you fueled and moving forward can make a big difference.

And while individual packets are incredibly convenient, they aren’t always necessary. If I’m heading out for a long run, tossing a few servings into a pocket or running vest makes perfect sense. But if I’m working out at home on the treadmill, lifting weights in the garage, or simply getting ready for an early-morning training session, I don’t really need individually packaged servings sitting around.

That’s where Skratch Labs‘ new 30-serving resealable bags of Energy Chews make a lot of sense.

We’ve reviewed Skratch Labs products before, so this isn’t really a deep dive into the brand or a first impression. I already know I like the stuff. This is more of a quick look at a packaging change that I think is genuinely useful for runners who go through a lot of fuel.

The individual serving packets are great for portability, but they also mean more packaging and, generally, a higher cost per serving. The larger resealable bag gives you the same chews you’re already familiar with, but lets you buy in bulk, control your serving size, and keep the bag sitting in your pantry or training space.

I’ve gotten into the habit of grabbing a couple of chews while I’m making coffee at 5 a.m. before a harder garage training session. I don’t necessarily need a full serving right away, but having the bag sitting there means I can grab what I want, reseal it and get on with the workout.

Each serving is five chews and provides 80 calories, 19 grams of carbohydrates and 14 grams of sugar, with 45 milligrams of sodium. They’re made with cane sugar, pectin and real fruit for flavor, without artificial dyes or waxes.

The new bags are available in several familiar Skratch flavors, including Grape, Raspberry and Orange, along with Sour Cherry + Caffeine, Lemon + Green Tea and the limited-edition Sour Apple. Grape is particularly notable because it’s Skratch’s first new flavor in a while.

For runners who are already fans of Skratch Chews, this isn’t necessarily a reinvention of the product. It’s just a really practical way to buy and use them.
