Fighting the Funk with Nonaste detergent and spray

Even when I’m not working out multiple times per day (like I was during this COVID-19 quarantine), I still somehow end up with a lot of dirty workout clothes at the end of the day. And, not to brag, but I would be willing to bet mine are much grosser than the average person. So, in a completely disgusting way, I…win(?). Recently, as my wife was pulling my running clothes out of the dryer – she uttered “you really need to get new detergent for this stuff”. And thus, our review of Nonaste was born.

What it Is:

Nonaste is more than a detergent – it is actually a specialized solution designed for runners and workout enthusiasts. Going beyond typical options Nonaste is specifically formulated to tackle that unpleasant, indescribable scent we all know too well. You know the one – that built-in , slightly sour (gross), offbeat scent that seems to cling to fibers in our running clothes regardless of how many times we wash it.

How it Works:

According to Nonaste, their advanced technology combines enzymes and eco-friendly surfactants to banish odors, dirt, and grime. It restores fabric integrity, leaving a light, fresh smell. This is crucial, especially for synthetic materials that traditional detergents struggle to clean. Add one or two capfuls to your laundry, adjusting based on the level of “nastiness”.

The Test:

During my first few loads, I found the clothes to come out clean and, while there is a lot of built in stink in some of my clothes, they seem to be smelling as good as they can – and perhaps in some instances – funk free. I also like that it gets the stink out and that I don’t smell like a lilac, since I’ve tried some pretty fragrant products. Available in 32-ounce bottles, Nonaste offers both unscented and lightly scented versions.

It is even possible that for more delicate run or outdoor clothes – those which don’t hold up to a washing machine and dryer all that well – a 20-minute hand soak works wonders. It’s versatile enough for gym bags too.

More Details:

I like to limit my impact on the environment, but for obvious reasons, I need some serious cleaning power. These were a great find with a 100% non-toxic, biodegradeable, and ecofriendly formula free from bleach, fabric softener, brighteners, and scents. A cleaner formula means less harsh chemicals in the environment and keeping clothes out of landfills is another small way to protect the planet.

Odor Eliminating Spray:

Beyond the detergent, Nonaste also has an odor eliminating spray. This is perfect for reviving neglected items like garage gym mats, yoga mats, and even slippers – all of which I tried this out on and was impressed. I also think this would be great to use on your hiking packs and beach bags – which are hard to keep from smelling. It’s not just about covering up the smell with ANOTHER smell – it’s about getting rid of the odor to begin with. The spray can also complements the detergent, ensuring your workout gear stays fresh and funk-free.

Overall:

I, as well as my wife (!), have really like Nonaste for my running clothes. It really seems to work AND I love that the scent in the Zen Fresh is minimal enough.

Given how well this has performed, it was no surprise that the founder of Nonaste, Andy Voggenthaler, comes from running. He is a long-time endurance athlete and has competed in top events all over the world and even created Race Guards. If someone knows about stinky laundry, it’s an endurance runner!
