I haven’t been much of a supplement taker throughout my life, but as I approach my 40s, I’ve started to notice the subtle signs of aging. It’s got me thinking that maybe it’s time to explore some options to support my overall health. I recently tried out 2before Blackcurrant Vegan Pre Workout Powder.
Pre-Workout Benefits:

For those unfamiliar with pre-workout supplements, they are designed to enhance physical performance by providing a boost of energy, focus, and endurance. In the context of runners, pre-workout can be particularly beneficial, offering the potential for increased stamina during training sessions or races. Personally, any boost I can get to get me out the door on chilly and raining mornings is a necessity. 2before Pre Workout aims to cater to this need.
They also claim that ach serving guarantees 120mg of antioxidant anthocyanins, to help promote:
- Improved exercise endurance
- Oxygen efficiency
- Kick-start recovery
- Supporting immunity
How to Take:
Simply put, you drop this powder into 4-8 ounces of water or juice (I liked cranberry) 30-45 minutes before heading out on a run. The caffeine version contains about a similar amount to a cup of coffee. This is generally what I down (and not just one cup!) in the mornings, so taking the 2before did not leave me feeling jittery. I felt about the same level of alertness initially, but without the addition of a stomach full of bean water and the…ahem – aftereffects… that seem to take hold of my body shortly after drinking coffee. (i.e. see poop).
2before Pre Workout:

Examining the ingredients of 2before Pre Workout reveals a mix of natural components, which is a positive aspect. The availability of both caffeinated and non-caffeinated versions accommodates individuals with varying sensitivities to stimulants. This flexibility is a thoughtful touch, allowing users to tailor their pre-workout experience to their specific needs.
I agree with both of 2before’s recommendations regarding the optimal timing for peak effects, which they suggest occurs approximately 60 minutes after consumption. This timing aligns seamlessly with my running routine, often finding myself hitting the third mile by the time I started drinking and then headed out the door 30-45 minutes later. It’s during these moments that I noticeably feel more in the zone compared to my usual runs. However, it’s crucial to highlight that this positive impact didn’t become apparent immediately; it took a consistent effort over a few weeks for me to truly understand how my body was positively responding to the supplement.
Taste:
One of the standout features of 2before Pre Workout is its taste and the subtle yet noticeable boost in energy it provides. There is just one flavor – Black Currant – and I found it to be palatable, avoiding the overly sweet or artificial taste common in some pre-workout supplements. Black Currant already has immunity defenses within it, which is a nice little bonus. It has also been shown to assist with muscle recovery and reducing inflammation. This Pre Workout also sort of operates like a “Post Workout” as a result!
For Consideration:

It’s essential to recognize the inherent variability that comes with supplements and chemistry-based products. As with any such product, individual experiences can differ significantly. Reflecting on my own journey, I’ve attempted to incorporate CBD into my routine without success, struggling to feel the expected effects. This stark contrast underscores the importance of recognizing that what works for one person may not yield the same results for another. It’s a reminder that individual biochemistry plays a pivotal role in the effectiveness of these products, emphasizing the need for a personalized approach when exploring supplementation.
Overall:
Overall, I have been pretty happy with this product, and a little surprised it worked for me. The emphasis on natural ingredients aligns with the growing trend towards cleaner, more transparent supplements, and it’s likely to be a factor that appeals to athletes who prioritize the quality of what they put into their bodies. I still love myself some PNW roasted coffee, but 2before Pre Workout seems to be a solid option for runners seeking a reliable and transparent pre-workout supplement.
