Relaying in the Air Up There at the HTC High Desert Relay

The High Desert Relay put on by Hood to Coast Productions, is a great way to see parts of Central Oregon you might miss if you have only visited Sunriver or Bend. The relay starts and finishes at Brasada Ranch Resort, which is north and east of Bend, tucked up against Powell Butte, and sandwiched between Redmond and Prineville.

The course, which is 64 miles, takes runners south through Alfalfa, with views of the cascades, then east out to Prineville Reservoir before turning north to Prineville. Then racers will head west where they will see Smith Rock before turning south again toward Powell Butte and Brasada.

From open pastures to dairy cows to horses running alongside, the course is ideal countryside with epic views all around. And as a 1 day relay, a team of 6 is perfect, which means you only need one van and don’t have to worry about “sleeping forward”!!!

The race is in early October, which means the temps are far more reasonable and the chance of fire smoke is minimal. This is an awesome way to experience the joy of a relay without the 2 day commitment, unless of course you book a stay at Brasada!

Relay Details:

When: Saturday, October 7th
Where: Starts and ends at Brasada Ranch
Cost: 6-person team: $750; 4-person team: $500
