Sportin’ La Sportiva on the Trails

Born in the mountains of Italy, La Sportiva might not be a brand you are super familiar with. However, even though their products are still all made in Italy, they are widely distributed throughout the world, and well known to the ultra running community. And their name is fun to say; La Sportiva!!

Today we are reviewing the Limitless T-Shirt and the Medal Short, both of which have been designed for trail running.

The Limitless T-Shirt was designed with La Sportiva’s BeCool yarn, which is a quick drying fabric. Additionally, the shirt is ultra light and it’s hard to believe there is a 1/2 zipper integrated into it! I’m testing a US size medium in the Poppy/Chili color.

I’ve had the chance to experience the Limitless shirt on both short road runs, while exposed to the sun, and long trail runs where I was under the canopy. The Poppy/Chili color is fun, and has gotten several compliments from fellow runners and cyclists alike. The 1/2 zip has been a great bonus, as this is the first t-shirt I’ve worn that has one, and it makes a nice vent!

Matt: Drew was supposed to also review the Medal Short, but he passed along to me as he felt they fit a Medium fit a little loose on his ultrarunning frame.

That would be the first thing I would mention – it appears you may need to size down. I am consistently a Large in most of my gear – but shorts especially. Receiving the Medium back from Drew had me thinking that there was NO way it was going to fit – but I was way wrong and it ended up being ideal. Sizing up and down is an easy fix, so don’t let that throw you.

Because these shorts are quite great. Not only are the visuals really nice (with 8 colorways to choose from), but they also have fit and function to them too. The inseam is longer (8″) and much appreciated by those who like to keep their thighs at bay. Speaking of thighs, there is some room in the legs to allow even thicker extremities to have a little room without constriction – almost a little like Courtney Dauwalter.

The shorts are surprisingly lightweight and have quick drying capabilities as well. The internal brief has been comfortable thus far as well.

There is a single pocket on the back and the waistband seems to be a little unique. Personally, I have loved it, as the band is seemingly thicker than others out there – but provides a nice secure fit. Also, the tightening string sits on the inside AND underneath the band instead of outward to keep the band itself free of discomfort.

Overall, we think La Sportiva really nailed it with these items and we can’t wait to try out more!
