What Run Oregon is Wearing: R5 GORE-TEX INFINIUM Tights

R5 Gore

Now that it’s finally starting to get colder, darker, and wetter out here in the Pacific Northwest, we thought it would be a good time to start testing some of the latest warm weather gear over at Run Oregon. GORE-TEX has been a household name in the outdoor space for decades now. Living in Oregon, it’s almost impossible to not have come across their gear. Here is where the R5 GORE-Tex Infinium Tights come into play. My first impressions were that these are noticeably better quality in both materials and construction than previous running tights I have used.

The R5 tights use the same GORE-TEX Infinium fabric with Windstopper tech that is both breathable and windproof which make these my go to pair when it’s too cold and wet to knock out those long weekend runs. They have a side pocket which can fit your phone or maybe a small wallet (tested with an iPhone 12 Mini) which worked perfectly keeping it secure and not bouncing around while moving. The zippers at the bottom of each leg provide for additional ease while removing or putting them on. There’s also a zippered pocket in the back which works perfect for keys, gels, or small snacks. These are definitely form fitting but also have an adjustable waistband drawstring which was extremely helpful as these definitely run a little large, I tested a medium pair (my normal size) which were both long in the leg and wide in the waist. Their fit guide would put me in a small so I would check before purchasing.

The R5’s were a godsend during my long runs when it was windy and cold. They performed quite well even when wet and the reflective accents were welcome for the evening runs when you need to be seen. Even with the wind proofing they didn’t overheat and stayed breathable up until about 50 degrees which honestly is way too hot for tights for me, I do tend to run pretty hot though so your mileage may vary. All in all, these are a great pair of tights that will also be great for snow sports and cycling. The side pocket for your phone is probably my favorite feature of these, eliminating the need to carry it or use a running belt. I have welcomed these into my cold weather gear rotation with open arms!
