What Run Oregon is Trying: Drinkfinity Electrolyte Pods

At Run Oregon, I get to test out a lot of products. It’s rare that I go to the website and order from the company I’ve tested something from right away, but that’s exactly what I did after I tried the Drinkfinity Electrolyte Pods. As someone who often struggles to drink enough water and enjoys a little “kick” from something with flavor in it to help motivate me to keep sipping away, I prefer to get something that is good for my body, especially with all the extra miles I’ve been putting in lately. Between all the double digit mile days, a summer with two energetic little boys, and a full schedule that includes a lot of “GO GO GO” on the itinerary, I’ve been lacking energy (to put it mildly.) As all the race weekends continue, I’ve been trying to hydrate days beforehand with electrolytes and vitamins. I got sick right before my last 50k (I’m sure overtraining added to that,) and it was not an experience I want to duplicate, so I’m doing my best to stay hydrated and healthy.  Because of this, Drinkfinity was exactly what I needed.

So what’s Drinkfinity? Quite simply, it’s a way of getting electrolyte infused water in a unique new system. Inside each pod is a sports drink level of electrolytes, sodium, and potassium to keep you hydrated, and no artificial sweeteners. They are also low calorie, at 35-40 calories per serving. The electrolyte pods come in multiple delicious flavor options in packages of 4. Fill a Drinkfinity bottle with water (with or without ice,) and make sure that the pod piercer has been screwed onto the mouth of the vessel.  “Peel, Pop, Shake” is the simplest way to proceed, as you will pull off the label from the pod of your choice, turn it upside down and onto the piercer on the bottle and presss down on the pod so that it is pierced and the water is infused with the flavor pod. Shake up the bottle and a flavorful beverage is ready to go. Easy peasy and no mess!

If you’re worried about the waste of the empty pods, that has been considered by Drinkfinity as well. They will send you a recyclable bag with your order, so once you’ve filled the bag with the empty pods, you can ship the bag to Loop Industries, which will break down the pods to reform them into FDA-approved PET plastic with the intention of reusing the pods in the future. It’s super convenient and won’t cost you anything more than you’re already paying.  Additionally, the pods use 65% less plastic than a comparable 20oz ready-to-drink beverage bottle.

There are many package deals available on the Drinkfinity website, including a starter kit which comes with a bottle and 4 pods. If you use code TRYD8, it’s 20% off at a very affordable $20. There are also bundle options to try all the flavors or a subscription option if you want to start getting them on the regular for 10% off. And with flavors like Mango Coconut Water & Electrolytes and Mango Chia & Vitamins, you’ll have plenty of options to chose from.

I was sent the Watermelon Lemonade and the Cucumber Coconut Water. The Watermelon Lemonade was sweet but not overpoweringly so, and the Cucumber Coconut Water was really refreshing. Both were welcome additions to a hot summer. In addition to the electrolyte pod options, Drinkfinity also has Acai or Mandarin Orange flavor pods which contain Green Coffee Extract and a White Peach or Pomegranate Ginger flavor option which both feature antioxidant Vitamins C and E.

The bottle is also pretty slick, with a magnetic button to keep the cap in place when it’s open, and it’s also BPA-free and dishwasher safe.

Drinkfinity donates 1% of every purchase from the website to, which is an international nonprofit organization that provides access to safe water around the world.

Give the Drinkfinity system a try! It’s really very affordable and worth a try!
