Race Preview: 2018 Heaven Can Wait 5K (Bend)

This year marks the 18th year of the St. Charles Foundation’s annual race, Heaven Can Wait 5K walk/run. This event has grown and become one of the largest 5K races in Central Oregon. It benefits Sara’s Project, which provides education, early detection and support services to ease the challenges associated with breast cancer for people in Central and Eastern Oregon. This event draws in thousands of participants to Drake Park in Bend OR.
The course will start and finish is Drake Park. It will start by taking you south toward Riverbend Park, winding back through residential neighborhoods and returning to Drake Park. This 5K course is relatively flat, and will be well marked. Aid stations will be available on the course. Pets are not allowed on the course or in Drake park during the event. Participants who are planning on taking children are asked to walk, rather than run, with strollers or other wheeled child carriers.
This race has a great post race party to honor cancer survivors in the community. The festivities will include music, food, massages and will have exhibitor booths that offer cancer prevention information, as well as information on local programs and services. This is a family friendly event.
Awards will be given to a survivor in each category only, first, second and third for both female and male. Public acknowledgement will be made for first, second and third place winners for all categories in five-year age increments, going up to age 70, and a final category for age 70 and older.
Come run in this family friendly race in Bend’s Drake Park, benefiting Sara’s Project.
