Race Preview: 2017 Kevin’s Cup 8K Trail Run (West Linn)

Are you itching to hit the trails this fall? The 26th annual Kevin’s Cup 8K Trail Run is just around the corner. The website states, “This nasty lil’ trail serves up a variety of challenges… mud, creeks, trails, brutal ankle twisting switchbacks, bone-jarring down-hills, lung-searing up-hills and more . . . If you enjoy the eye watering, sweat dropping, and snot flying challenge that this course will promise — then… risk the skinned knee, scraped elbow, and damaged ego and run it.” This description should probably scare me, but instead I’m intrigued. I’ve got to try out this crazy X-Dog Events challenge – even if I am a little nervous about that “ankle twisting” description.

This challenging West Linn trail run encourages costumes. The 2017 theme is Year of the Clown, so start searching for that red nose and giant polka dot pants for this 8K adventure. Plan on having some fun on the trails, but perhaps not your fastest time.

The fun doesn’t end when this trail run is over. Instead, participants should head over to Round Table Pizza (just 1 mile away) for pizza, beer, and awards. Awards will go to overall and age group winners. All participants will receive a souvenir pint glass and will be eligible for random prizes. Prizes will also be awarded for best costume.

I’m looking forward to my first try at Kevin’s Cup this November. Yes, there’s a little trepidation, but running is about challenging yourself – right? See you on the trail!
