I’m not going to lie, when I first received the Vega Protein products to try I was both excited and apprehensive. I knew the products were plant-based and although I follow this eating lifestyle, I have never tried any products in the form of bars or shakes. My first thought was that they would probably be chalky and strange tasting.
The first product I tried was the Vega Chocolate Protein and Shake. I had it in the fridge and one crazy morning with my kids, I knew I wouldn’t have the opportunity to eat anything and that I should try the shake. To say I was pleasantly surprised is an understatement. This shake was delicious. It was smooth, creamy, and nobody would be able to tell it is plant-based. It tasted like a creamy chocolate milk. It’s hard to believe that this product includes spinach, kale, carrot, and organic spirulina.
Because I like chocolate the next product I tried was the Chocolate Peanut Butter Vega Protein and Snack Bar. The bar was crunchy from the peanut butter and smooth from the chocolate. It was a delicious snack post-workout and filled me up while not leaving me feeling like I ate a cardboard box. I want to eat these every day, it was that good. Again, finding out it had peas, leafy greens, sprouts, and more included in it was shocking and encouraging.
The following day, with the excitement of my love for the Chocolate Peanut Butter Vega Protein and Snack Bar, I tried the chocolate caramel one. Again, it was delightful and just what I needed after a tempo run. It had just the right amount of crunch and smooth chocolate texture. The caramel wasn’t overpowering and was just the right amount of gooeyness.
Next, I ventured into vanilla. I am not a terribly huge vanilla fan so I was weary of this. I tried the Vega Vanilla Protein and Shake. For not liking vanilla, I thoroughly enjoyed this product. I liked it so much that I would buy this product along with the chocolate to have for breakfasts. I have found that with two toddlers, instead of grabbing something bland or attempting to make a nutritious and filling breakfast, shakes are simply the way to go.
Overall, I was blown away by the Vega products. My initial idea was that they were going to be green, chalky and unappealing. I was quite mistaken and so happy I was able to learn that there are delicious and filling plant-based bars and shakes out there. I highly recommend them. In fact, I think I will Instacart some right now.
