Small Race Preview: 2017 Umpqua Strong 9k & 5k Run/Walk (Roseburg)

On October 1st, 2015, a gunman killed 8 students and a teacher at Umpqua Community College in Roseburg, Oregon. The Umpqua Strong 9k & 5k Run/Walk is a tribute to that tragic day and is being held this year on Saturday, September 30th at Stewart Park in Roseburg. This race is all about embracing life and uniting in hope as well as honoring those who were lost that day. There will be live music and food. All proceeds from the event will go to UCC Student Scholarships in honor of the victims and in recognition of the survivors.

The 9k course starts and ends at Stewart Park and follows the bike paths alongside the Umpqua River. The 5k Run/Walk meanders through the parks of Roseburg and along the River before finishing at the half shell. There is also an option to register as a remote runner so you can choose to do a 5k or 9k and support the cause from any location of your choosing. Your race swag, including your shirt, wil be mailed to you if you choose this option. There are also a few kid’s run options for children 12 and under, including a 200m, 400m, and ½ mile.
