Run Oregon Test Kitchen: The newest flavor from GU Energy Labs – Toasted Marshmallow

My guess is that most runners have experienence with GU Energy Labs or oher energy gels. I would also guess that you have a certain opinion on them too. I personally have no issues with energy gel – the texture is agreeable with my palate and the taste is usually fine for when im dying out there on the race course. However, I know other people who aren’t really a fan of a gelled texture while they are on a run. Still others are fine with the texture, but only have a few flavor options they are fans of. This “review” may not swing people from “hating” to loving energy gel, but it does offer a unique flavor that is perfect for summer nostalgia.

We were sent a few samples GU’s newly released ( July 6th) and 27th flavor – Toasted Marshmallow Energy Gel. There is a cool little homage to the  Sweetest Cushion” character that HOKA uses for their shoes – specifically their new Clifton 4 (which we recently reviewed here). Matt found the flavor to be very reminiscent of a melted marshmallow and it was equally nostalgic as he used them while running through backcountry wilderness at the UnderArmour Mountain Trail Series half at Mt. Bachelor.

These can be found at many local running stores, so if you are up for a taste test, now is your chance. In addition to Toasted Marshmallow, there also appear to be Cola and Campfire S’mores options. It’s a like a campfire extravaganza…in gel form!
