It seems like yesterday that the new Hood to Coast Washington was announced and teams rushed to fill the event up in the blink of an eye. Run Oregon decided to field a team, and I (as the continuously terrible captain), put all planning aside because “it’s months away!”… Well, now that the race is just around the corner, I thought I’d present some info to 1) get excited for and 2) make sure no one made the same mistake I did!

The Course:
Course maps have been modified a couple of times since first being announced, but it appears that they are completely finalized now. Check out below for information on lengths of each leg and their difficulty rating, as well as total mileage. There will be water stations at each leg, and it appears some legs will have water stations along the way, but plan accordingly with bottles or vests if you feel you will need more along the course.
Team captains – don’t forget that you will need to drag and drop your runners into the correct slots inside the team clubhouse. Also, head to the map page for detailed info on each leg. The legs are also included within the Team Handbook, an absolute necessity for everyone to look over!
Gearing Up:
If you glance in the Team Handbook, you will notice some necessities for the event. These include:
- Copy of Safety Agreement in car
- 2 Reflective Vests
- 2 LED Flashers
- 2 Flashlights or Headlamps
- “Caution: Runner on Road” Sign in rear of van
- No in-ear headphones allowed
- No open containers of alcohol (it isn’t worth the DQ!)
Other:
If you haven’t booked a pre-or post-race hotel, check out the lodging page. These may be sold out (or close to it), so consider calling and trying to find something ASAP!
Part of the fun of a relay is finishing together as a team. Within the handbook, there are instructions as to where to locate the team staging area so that everyone can arrive at the finish line as one. Everyone in the team must be ready to go as the number is called, so be ready!
Afterwards, there will be food carts and a Full Sail beer tent, as well as live music til 8pm!
Can’t wait to see you all there!
