Small Race Previews: 2 races raising money for Skin Cancer awareness

The Skin Cancer 5K is in its second year running. This race starts at Sellwood Riverfront Park (SE Oaks Park Way, Portland) at 9:00 A.M. This out and back 5K will be along the “Springwater on the Willamette” pathway. Be aware that the Sellwood Bridge will be closed on race day, so plan ahead and take an alternate route if necessary. Net proceeds from this event will go to the Skin Cancer Foundation. The entry fee for the Skin Cancer 5K is $29. Register by May 14th to guarantee your dry fit shirt.

Medals will go to the top 3 finishers in each age bracket and trophies will go to the top 3 team finishers.

The other May 20th event, AIM For The Cure Melanoma Walk and Fun Run, will start at the Collaborative Life Sciences Building on the South Waterfront (2730 SW Moody Ave, Portland.) This 9:30 A.M. 5K is supporting AIM’s Melanoma Tissue Bank at OHSU Knight Cancer Institute. There is no entry fee for this 5K, but each participant is encouraged to raise $50.

Regardless of which event you choose, you’ll be supporting the prevention and/or treatment of skin cancer. A great cause either way! So, get out on May 20th and participate in one of these Portland 5Ks.
