Race Preview: 2017 Banks Linear Trail Brave Run 5k/10k Run/Walk

If you’ve never experienced running in the Banks-Vernonia region, you have been missing out on some beautiful inspiration to get outside. The Vernonia Half Marathon is done and gone and now you have another chance to get in a scenic race. The 7th annual 2017 Banks Linear Trail Brave Run/Walk on May 20th is waiting for you!

As a mom, I have a special place in my heart for events that help out kids, and this race raises technology funds for Banks Elementary School. A local mom, Leslie Peterson, came up with the idea of the 5k/10k race in 2010 to fund things like overhead projectors, tablets, software, and other technology over the last 6 years that the school was badly in need of.

This is a “flat and fast course” and you have the option of a 5k or a 10k, a run or a walk. There’s a kid’s dash as well, which the school principle runs with the kids in an outfit to fit whatever the theme is that year. This year’s theme is “Running Wild on the Linear Trail for Kids and Technology,” so expect to see a wild animal and safari theme. There’s something for everyone! The race starts at Banks High School, and then continues out to the gorgeous paved Banks/Vernonia Linear Trail before looping back to the high school again.

I’ve seen a lot of interesting things given to race participants over the years, but this run takes the cake.. or the pineapple, actually. Yes, that’s right, pineapples are given out along with medals to the winners! And walkers have a chance to win too! Additionally, there will be great music and a DJ to get you dancing after your run as well as fruit, water, and Gatorade to help you refuel. Some local restaurants are offering participant discounts after the race, so stick around for those as well as the raffle. Each participant receives one raffle ticket and can purchase additional tickets for more chances to win.

So come to Banks to enjoy a fun race and a good time with your family and earn some money for a local school at the same time.
