May 13th has two races in Washington and Marion Counties that raise money for great local causes. If you are looking to make the most of your race entries, consider checking these out.
The third annual TEAM UP for Students 5K comes back to the small town of Cornelius (between Forest Grove and Hillsboro in Washington County). The local teachers’ union started this event a few years ago in and effort to work together with the community for the 2016 Better Oregon campaign. It continues now in 2017 and allows the entire local community to come out for a run and support local schools as well. The proceeds this year will support students at Forest Grove’s Fern Hill Elementary by going directly to supplies and classroom materials.
In Salem, your registration money can go towards the Community Action Agency Superhero Dash 10k & 5k, a family and dog-friendly event at Salem’s River Front Park. Salem’s local Community Action Agency does a lot of things in the community – from fighting poverty to providing services for homeless youth. They truly are superheroes, and should be applauded for their efforts.
The proceeds from this race will go to supporting the CAA, and they have a lot of cool things going on the entire day. The race courses are pretty straight-forward – a loop through Riverfront Park, across the Union Street Pedestrian Bridge, around Wallace Marine Park and returning to Riverfront. The 10k will be a double loop of the 5k.
Afterwards, there are a lot of cool things going on, including:
- Salem Health Superhero Training Academy with real live SUPERHEROES
- b2 Taphouse beer garden
- Food trucks
- Live music
There will also be prizes for top 3 male and female finishers in all races, as well as for a variety of best-dressed categories.
