Be a Nature Freak with Freaks of Nature

Nature is dope. We’re definitely lucky here in Oregon to have so many outdoor activities available so close to home. As someone who travels a lot, I’m also constantly looking for new outdoor experiences and running routes. Simply put, being in nature is great.

But spending so much time outside also comes with a few secondary needs to make those adventures safe and enjoyable. I’m not talking about the right running shoes, apparel, or gear, but more personal things like skin and body care. I feel if I want to keep spending as much time outdoors as possible, I need to take care of the body that gets me there.

I’m someone who is pretty conscious about sun protection. My father passed away from skin cancer back in 2019, so it’s something that’s still fresh in my mind every time I head outside. Freaks of Nature has a handful of products aimed at making that a little easier.

The Solar Shield SPF 30 is their traditional spray sunscreen. Most people have probably used this style of sunscreen before, and this one does exactly what you’d want it to do. The mineral formula sprays on evenly, rubs in without much effort, and doesn’t leave behind an overly greasy feeling. It also held up well on runs (water resistant for up to 40 minutes), where a lightweight sunscreen is always appreciated.

They also offer the Peak Performance Sun Stick, which I found especially useful for my face. I always make sure to cover my ears, face, and neck before heading out, and while I’ll deal with rubbing sunscreen in with my fingers if I have to, I’d rather not.

The stick makes application simple—you can glide it directly onto your skin or hold it in your hand and apply it without ending up with greasy fingers before a run. It’s also compact enough to toss into a running vest or pocket, making it easy to reapply after a run or even during longer outings.

We were also sent a package of their Skin Support Electrolytes, which offers an interesting twist on a traditional hydration product. It comes in a box of individual packets that mix into water just like most electrolyte powders. I tried the Passion Fruit Guava flavor and found it refreshing without being overly sweet or overpowering.

Where this product is unique is its focus on supporting healthy skin from the inside out. In addition to hydration, Freaks of Nature says the formula helps fortify your skin barrier, support gut health, and defend against environmental stressors—including sun exposure.

Now, I’m not sure any amount of product testing is going to let me confirm or deny those specific claims, but it’s certainly an intriguing concept. If you’re someone who spends a lot of time outdoors or has skin-specific concerns, it’s a unique approach that’s worth checking out.

Lastly—and while it’s not exactly skincare, it still has something to do with your skin—there’s the Everyday Endurance Deodorant. I’ve been using natural aluminum-free roll-on deodorants for years, and this fits right in with the better options I’ve tried.

It comes in three scents: Santal Dune, which blends sandalwood and amber; Bergamot Canyon, featuring oakmoss and cedarwood; and the new Cedar Peak, with eucalyptus and mint. I found the scent pleasant without being overpowering, it goes on smoothly, and, perhaps most importantly, it simply does what it’s supposed to do. Sometimes that’s all you really need from a deodorant.

Conclusion

If you’re someone who loves spending time outside, Freaks of Nature has put together a lineup of products designed with that lifestyle in mind. Whether it’s sunscreen, hydration with a skin-focused angle, or everyday body care, it’s a brand that’s worth checking out if you want to keep enjoying everything the outdoors has to offer.
