Hoka Hopara 2: Rugged, Resilient, and Ready to Hop Into Adventure!

As time has passed, we find ourselves once again on the cusp of sandal season. Reflecting on past reviews, I must acknowledge a notable shift: the days of effortlessly slipping into cheap flip-flops from Old Navy and bounding about carefree are behind me.

Approaching my 40s, I’ve come to realize that my feet now demand more than mere flimsy support. Over the past decade, the necessity for structured support and comfort in sandals has become increasingly apparent.

It’s been around three decades since I last opted for a pair of Teva’s or a similar style, often favoring flip-flops or slides instead. However, when Hoka sent us one of their latest and boldest sandal designs, the Hopara 2, we felt compelled to give it a try.

Looks:

This isn’t just your average pair of sandals; it’s a rugged solution for traversing terrain without the need for traditional shoes. Designed to withstand various environments, these sandals offer support and durability, perfect for exploring the diverse landscapes of Oregon.

I picture wearing them along the coastal shores, tackling creek crossings in the Cascades, or strolling along the Hood River Waterfront Park beach after an excursion in the Gorge. They’re versatile enough for poolside lounging too. In essence, they’re a lively and adaptable footwear option that adds excitement to any outdoor excursion.

Construction:

The appearance of the Hopara 2 aligns perfectly with the style of modern sandals and recovery footwear, boasting a distinctive and funky aesthetic. The futuristic, chunky design and generously cushioned rubberized EVA midsole, they exude both a contemporary look and comfortable feel. It’s not super plush – but it’s essentially a mountain hiking sandal – you want some firm protection!

The collar features neoprene construction, offering flexibility and freedom of movement. Utilizing pull-string laces, tightening or loosening them is effortless. There was ample support and I haven’t felt like I am going to roll my ankle. Moreover, the outsole boasts substantial coverage, equipped with 4mm lugs capable of tackling a wide range of terrains and activities, ensuring these sandals excel in various scenarios and beyond.

Combining responsiveness with cushioning, the rubberized EVA midsole ensures a comfortable stride. Furthermore, the inclusion of a rubberized toe cap offers additional protection, while the sticky rubber outsole provides traction across diverse terrain. With 4mm multidirectional lugs amplifying grip, the Hopara 2 emerges as your ultimate companion for adventure. It’s not exactly light (12 ounces)

Final Thoughts:

Describing the Hopara 2 simply as a “sandal” almost feels inadequate. It’s more akin to a hiking shoe with boasting drainage capabilities that set it apart. Available in five distinct colors, the Hopara 2 is priced at $108.
