Race Preview: 2023 Pacific Northwest Marathon/Half Marathon/5k

“One of the Flattest, Fastest Marathons in Oregon.”

This quote comes directly from the website of the Pacific Northwest Marathon, and these words are often music to a runner’s ears. Come out to Harrisburg on Saturday, September 16th, 2023 for your choice: marathon, half marathon, or 5k.

If you’re a marathoner, this event is perfect for you, as this USATF certified marathon course is a Boston qualifier. Hip hip hooray! The Fall weather in the Willamette Valley is as ideal as it gets in Oregon, with a cool morning, a slim (though never impossible!) chance for rain, and a lower pollen count than Spring. This race is only at 400 feet above sea level as well. If the full marathon is not quite what you’re up for, you’ve still got the option of a half distance or a nice easy 5k.

As promised in the quote mentioned above, this course is relatively flat as well as simple. The race begins at 400 feet and drops gradually to 325 feet. There aren’t too many turns and everything is well marked with arrows, chalk, and your friendly and wonderful volunteers. Check out all the information on the course here.

One thing that sets the Pacific Northwest Marathon apart is their desire to encourage everyone to participate, and making the entire event such that beginners to elite athlete athletes will be fully supported.

Finisher medals and event shirt are included with registration for the marathon and half marathon. Also, post-race food and refreshments will be provided. The cost for this event is not too shabby compared to many other race options as well. The 5k is only $30, the half is $65, and the full marathon is $110.

I highly encourage everyone to find a distance that works for you and register, knowing you will have ample support on the course to get to the fantastic finish line!
