In Search of Hydration Support? Get The Right Stuff

It’s usually around this time of year that I realize that my hydration is lacking. I think about water and fuel consumption when the weather is warmer, and less so when we are getting bombarded with rain the rest of the year. I know that’s horrible, and so maybe some new products from The Right Stuff hydration will bring me in line.

If the name sounds familiar, you may be associating it with the famous 1983 epic historical drama film about astronauts. That isn’t a coincidence, as The Right Stuff (the hydration product) was actually developed by NASA specifically for use in the extreme conditions of Space. Shoot if its good enough for astronauts, I can only assume that is especially valuable for athletes during their most challenging times down here on Earth.

The Right Stuff look like a standard hydration gel packet, but actually comes in liquid form. It can be taken on runs and added to handheld water bottles throughout your activity. Squeezing it into the bottle is a bit easier than powders – and its sort of a wonder that more companies don’t have this as an option. Simply rip the top off, squeeze into 16 ounces, and continue on your way.

Based on the numerous published studies, it seems that The Right Stuff provides the ability to:

  1. Combat the cramps, muscle fatigue, disorientation, light-headedness and headaches caused by heavy sweating, dehydration and electrolyte loss.
  2. Increase endurance by over 20% more than any other formula NASA tested.
  3. Protect athletes’ bodies from overheating during times of intense exertion and in high heat settings.

If you are traveling for a big race, or do alpine running, NASA studies also show that the formula is highly effective at offsetting the negative effects of Jet Lag and high altitudes.

There are multiple flavors, but we are partial to the Orange Tangerine. It is a sweeter option (naturally though) than some others, and all the flavors do a pretty good job at giving enough flavor without completely going overboard. I don’t need a candy in my mouth, but I also don’t want barely-flavored water either. The Right Stuff skews a little sweeter on the scale, but that’s where I prefer

There is quite a bit of difference between all the flavors. Some are sweeter than others and there is a taste profile seemingly for everyone.

You can purchase a three-pack for about $9 (so perhaps a bit more than standard hydration formulas) or 40 for $100. There are also variety packs available with multiple flavors. All are vegan and GMO free and contain no caffeine, added colors, artificial flavors, sugar, gluten, dairy, nuts, shellfish or meat.
