In 2016, some fine folks in Adrian, Oregon got together to create an event that could raise both awareness and funds to help fix the running track in town. It’s an odd shape, it’s dirt, and it’s tough to do workouts on, especially if you’re the local track team! Slowly but surely, this courageous group of boosters has been inching closer to reaching their budget, and plans are now underway to begin working on the new track. The Owyhee Off Road Challenge has helped with that cause and it’s finally happening!
We would prefer to let the views do the talking for us. Please don’t miss their gallery of views from the trail as well as photos of the half from the rim.
Last year, event coordinators added a 55K to the 5K, 10K, and half marathon events. The courses are beautiful and run through gorgeous country in Eastern Oregon, including sights of the awe-inspiring Owyhee Canyon.
Getting to Adrian isn’t always easy, but it’s worth it. Adrian sits just inside the border between Oregon and Idaho, about 1 hour west of Boise. The town is the funny little time window that places it in Mountain Standard Time. From Portland, it’s about a 6-1/2 hour drive, or 1 hour from Boise. There are plenty of places to stay in the area. And if you end up driving out, the showers at the high school will be open and free to all runners following the events.
