Race Preview: 2021 Storm The Castle Half Marathon (Blue River)

Elevated Trail Racing is a new race organizer putting on a series of vert-packed trail races this fall. (In case you missed it, we chatted with founder Devin VansCoy earlier this year.) Storm The Castle is the last one of the four 2021 races, taking place at the Upper McKenzie River on November 27th.

The theme of all Elevated Trail Racing events is serious elevation and mountainous terrain, and you’ll get both here. The course takes you on the beautiful Kings Castle and Castle Rock trails and delivers 2,815 feet of elevation gain over the first 6.5 miles. From the summit you’ll enjoy amazing views of the surrounding mountains, including the Three Sisters. And as for the second half of the race… the only way is down.

This race starts and finishes at the McKenzie Community Center, where post-race festivities include lunch provided by the community center and beer from Ninkasi Brewing for all runners and volunteers.

For those who like to combine serious elevation with a dose of fun, this event is costume themed, and runners (and volunteers) are encouraged to come in their best medieval costumes.

As for the awards, first place male/female will each receive a pair of On trail shoes. Awards are given out to the top 3 male/female and top masters male/female… and for the best costume!
