If you need an excuse to run in a Superman cape or a giant witch costume, come out to Milwaukie on October 30th this year and do the 2021 Run Like Hell 10k/5k Halloween Run!!
This Halloween-themed event, held by Terrapin Events, is family friendly, so come check out all the costumes and get your family to join in while you’re at it. You have the option of the 5k or the 10k, and you can run or walk depending on your mood (or maybe depending on your costume!) This year, the event will be held at the Elks Lodge in Milwaukie.
Both the 5k and 10k race have two package options, depending on how much swag you want. For the price of $54 for the 5k and $59 for the 10k, runners can opt for package #1 and will get a shirt, a medal, a bib & certificate, and 1 free beer or seltzer from New Belgium Brewing (ages 21 and over.) Package #2 is $34 for the 5k and $39 for the 10k, and this covers the cost of the bib & certificate, plus the free beer/seltzer. There’s also a virtual option for both distsance that costs $34 and includes the shirt, medal, and bib & certificate. Lastly, there’s a Kid’s Race option for $10. Parents can run this one with their kids for free, though t-shirts and medals will not be included.
The Kid’s Race starts at 8:45AM and is just a 1/3 of a mile around the Elks Lodge. The 5k and 10k race will both begin at 9:00AM, and there is a 1½ hour time limit for the entire course. After you finish this race, head to the entertainment at the finish line. There will be music, beer, and food waiting! The live music will begin jamming at 9:30 and the awards ceremony starts at 10:15. There’s a costume contest at 10:30AM, so make sure you make time for that if you choose to dress up for the Halloween race!! There’s a New Belguim Bike Giveaway at 10:45AM, so hang out for that too!!
If you opt for the virtual option, plan out your route and run it sometime between Friday October 29th and Sunday October 31st and don’t forget to submit your time on RunSignup afterwards.
You’ll have plenty of parking options at the lodge on race day and there will also be a Tri-Met Park and Ride next door for convenience.
The course is a mostly a flat course along the paved Trolley Trail. My coaching advice is to be sure to pick a costume that’s easy to move in. Also, masks will be required at the start and finish line, as well as in the party area. Once you’re out on course and properly spaced out, you can remove your mask for the run, and also while you eat or drink at the party afterwards.
Packet pick up for this event will be at Road Runner Sports in Portland on Thursday October 28th and Friday October 29th from 10:00AM to 6:00PM. There will be NO RACE DAY PACKET PICKUP, so please plan accordingly.
I’ve done this race a few times, and it’s like a parade with all the people-watching and costumes. You don’t want to miss it!!
