The Willamette Valley Marathon, Half Marathon, and 10K is back for 2021! After an almost empty race year and a cancellation for 2020, the Breakaway Promotions WVM is back for its 3rd race and ensuing wine festival! This year, the races will be held on Sunday, May 23rd. There is a marathon, half marathon, 10K, and half marathon relay for runners to take advantage of. As always, the races will start in front of the Oregon State Capitol building at 8 AM and will meander through Minto Brown Island Park and follow the Willamette River south before looping back and finishing at Riverfront Park in downtown Salem. You can check out the course details here.
The wine festival that follows is a great place to reenergize, eat food from the various food carts available, and try out some delicious local wines, all included in your registration! There are also aid stations approximately every 2 miles stocked with water, Gatorade, GU, etc. and most importantly, port-a-potties! The course is fairly flat (350 ft elevation gain for the marathon) so if setting a new PR after being forced to train harder than normal due to COVID is in your sights, this may be the course to do it.
Runners will be capped at 1000 due to current COVID restrictions in place according to the Willamette Valley Marathon’s COVID page which can be viewed here.
