Oregon Brewery Running Series hosts some of the best 5K fun runs in Portland (in my opinion). They host 5Ks throughout the Portland area, at local breweries. The 5Ks are un-timed and on an open course, and include the best post race celebration. After running, participants are handed some great swag and a token for an adult beverage. There is music, and vendors and raffles, oh my!
I had the opportunity to attend the Base Camp Brewing 5k Fun Run, held at Base Camp Brewing on November 2nd, 2019. The weather could not have been any better for a November day. The sun was shinning, although it still had that autumn chill in the air. When I arrived at the venue to pick up my packet, I was amazed at how many people there were. Usually, these events are on the smaller side, but that day’s race had around 208 participants. After getting my race bib, I made my way to the decorating table. This race, my sweet 4 year old and sister came to support me. Of course, my race bib was elaborately decorated with all of the colors by my son.
Soon it was time to head to the starting line. Everyone gathered near the race shoot, and started stretching and warming up. What is great about these events is the sense of belonging and being there together. Everyone stretches together, everyone warms up and everyone is very friendly and supportive. Once all warmed up, we were off! The 5K course relatively flat. There were a few hills for the first mile or so, then it was smooth sailing back to Base Camp. All turns were well marked with lovely volunteers directing the runners where to go. There were a few streets to cross, but every one to cross had a volunteer to help you cross.

Next thing I knew, I was crossing the finish line. It was a very fast 5K, thanks to the downhill the last mile. Once back at the brewery, I was handed some Swag, beer token, granola bars, loaf of bread, and the most delicious hand pies (which are always the first thing consumed by my littles). I also joined my family and made my way to get a delicious beverage. Base Camp Brewery has some amazing options including a S’More Stout, which has a toasted marshmallow garnish.
