The end of October is not far away, and that means Halloween is upon us. Halloween is on a Thursday this year, but no one races on Thursday. (Well, except for Thanksgiving, which is always on a Thursday and is the home of lots of turkey trots. But Thanksgiving is a holiday, whereas Halloween is not. So no Thursday races for Halloween.)
Instead, you can get your Halloween race fix on Saturday, October 26 in Aloha at the Halloweenathon. (Think it’s crazy to run a Halloween race on Saturday five days before Halloween? You might like this petition to move Halloween to the last Saturday in October.)
This is the seventh year of the Halloweenathon, so it’s a pretty established event. The entire race route takes place on the golf course paths at The Reserve Vineyards & Golf Club. Uberthons reserves the entire golf course (usually the south course) so you don’t have to worry about dodging errant tee shots. This year, there are 5K and 10K timed options, as well as 2.5K and 5K untimed fun run options; and a kids’ race. The untimed fun run options come with a series of spooky “obstacle events,” like throwing an eyeball in a pumpkin basket and eating a (candy?) “worm.”
And when you are done racing, you get to eat at the nacho bar. Come in a costume and you can enter the costume contest, with a prize of $150 for the People’s Choice winner!
This is a really fun event. It won’t be dark but it’s a great way to start your Halloween weekend. Lots of runners show up in costume, and you can even draft behind the ones with big costumes.
When: Saturday, October 26, 2019, at 8 a.m. (5K and 10K timed); 10 a.m. (2.5K and 5K untimed fun runs); 11 a.m. (kids’ race)
