Did you walk out of “Avengers: Endgame” thinking, That superhero stuff looks pretty cool; I’d like to be one? Well, short of finding some source of gamma radiation to expose yourself to (and hope to survive), or taking a massive injection of super steroids, or building a flying suit of armor, it’s not likely to happen. But for one morning at least, you can dress up as a superhero and run a 5K race and take part in other fun activities at the Superhero 5K at Cook Park in Tigard. (Who better to be than the Flash, or maybe Quicksilver? /comicnerd)
Race day is Saturday, June 29. The 5K run starts at 8:00 a.m., followed by the kids’ obstacle course event at 9:00 a.m., and closing with a 5K walk at 9:30 a.m. The course is a familiar one, used recently by Uberthons at the Turkeython, and takes runners through parts of Cook Park, Durham City Park, and Tualatin Community Park. It’s a fun route, going under a train crossing, over a bridge, and winding through a little forest. There’s not much elevation gain, but there is a short steep stretch right before the 2 mile mark.
This is a fundraising event for Candlelighters:
Candlelighters provides support for families every step of the way from diagnosis through treatment and beyond, providing programs such as emergency financial assistance, an annual family camp, family activities, bereavement support, and a hospital meal program that offers comfort and support for families during a difficult journey. Through it all, we never charge families a dime – ever!
Looks pretty fun!
