Race Preview: 2019 Twilight Half Marathon, 5K & 10K (Vancouver)

On race day, my alarm typically goes off earlier than it does on a work day. But not on Saturday, June 29th. That’s the day I’ll be lining up at the start line for the Twilight 5K at a completely relaxing 6:30pm.

The Twilight Half Marathon, 5K, and 10K take advantage of the long summer days in the Pacific Northwest and have runners and walkers start in the evening instead of at o’dark-thirty in the morning. All three distances begin and end at Vancouver Lake Park. Plus, there is a Kid’s Mile event so everyone can enjoy their day then get in a run before bedtime. All of the courses are very flat, and every finisher receives an owl medal at the finish line (the one from last year is one of my favorite medals ever).

Because this event is in the evening, and the sun sets eventually, the course closes at 9pm. Any half marathon runners or walkers who are worried about the cutoff time, need to use the early start at 5:20pm. Otherwise you’re in danger of being pulled from the course or not having the support you need in the dark.

Come join me, and other well-rested runners and walkers, at Twilight this July.
