For 25 years, the Wildland Firefighter Foundation has paid tribute to 14 hotshot firefighters that lost their lives in a terrible tragedy. Hundreds of thousands of dollars have been raised over that time, thanks to the Prineville Hotshot Memorial Run that takes place in Prineville. The runs themselves have changed a lot over the years, including a time when organizers did a 5K and an 8K.
Today, the 10K course uses parts of Barnes Butte Recreation area, sending runners up a tough hill, before returning to Ochoco Creek Park in the center of town. The 5K is offered again as either a run or a walk and as always, is billed as family friendly.
Afterward, finishers can enjoy a BBQ in the park following the run. All proceeds benefit the Wildland Firefighter Foundation.
When: Saturday, May 11th. Races start at 10:30 (same day registration opens at 9am)
Register: Online at RaceEntry. Costs are $25 each for the 5K or 10K. $15 for the kids fun run.
