Lake views, waterfalls, volcanic lava fields, single track trails; if the description of the Lost Creek Trail Runs alone doesn’t excite you, then I don’t know what will. Taking place May 4, 2019, at the scenic and beautiful Joseph H. Stewart State Park, this non-profit event includes a 50k, 30k, 30k relay, and 5k. Proceeds will benefit local running charities. In 2017, the event raised $7,000, and in 2018, it raised another $6,000.
The 30k course will make its way around the lake counter clockwise and includes 2 miles of pavement, 1 mile of gravel road (including dam), and 15.6 miles of sweet single track trails. The course boasts a hearty 2,300 feet of elevation gain, and will include 3 aid stations. It should be noted that there will be a 4 hour cutoff and participants must be at least 15 years or older.
The 30k relay will consist of a 2 person team that will run the 30k course. The first leg will run 10.6 miles, and the second leg 8 miles. The 50k run combines the existing 30k loop around the lake with a 10k out and back on the Rogue River Trail. There will be aid stations every 4-5 miles. The overall 50k cutoff is 7:30. The 5k run is a loop on bike paths and trails in the park, and includes 440 feet of elevation gain. No aid station.
Post race festivities will include food from Los Arcos Taqueria and beverages from Summit Beverage. Additionally, there will be giveaways from a number of local businesses. 50k, 30k, and 30k relay participants will receive a Lost Creek Trail Runs custom medal. 50k runners will also get a coozie filled with a local microbrew or kombucha depending upon their preference. Overall top 3 female/male finisher trophies and age group ribbons will also be handed out.
