My mom used to work at a children’s hospital, and if there’s one thing I learned from her, it’s that children are so much stronger than we are. They really are the superheroes of the world, and the 2018 Superhero 5k & Kid’s Obstacle Challenge in Tigard on August 18th celebrates that.
Candlelighters is an organization that helps children with cancer, and the Superhero 5k raises money to support the cause. You can download the flier here to spread the word about this awesome fundraiser. Participants can do the 5k Run or Walk individually or as a team, and there’s also a Kid’s Superhero-In-Training Obstacle Challenge. There will also be therapy animals on site and lots of activities for the whole family. And is there anything cuter than kids in superhero costumes? Get the whole family involved because everyone out there is going to be wearing capes and masks and all things superhero themed.
This timed 5k race will start and end at Cook Park in Tigard, with a detour through Durham Park. There will not be bathrooms on the course, but there are plenty of flushing toilet facilities in the park near the start/finish line. The Kid’s Obstacle Challenge is new this year and Play.Fit.Fun will be bringing kiddos between 4 and 12 years old a great experience that involves hurdling, high stepping, crawling, and more on a .25 mile course.
The 5k is only $30, and kids from 4 to 17 can run it for $20. The obstacle challenge is $10. This does not include a t-shirt, but one can be purchased for an additional $7.50. Prices increase by $5.00 for on-site registration the day of the event.
So find your cape and running shoes and come to Cook Park on the 18th of August!
