Race Preview: 2018 Wings and Wheels Half Marathon (Scappoose)

It’s always interesting to look at a race website for the first time. A quick browse will often cause what appeals to you become visible. The first picture on the Wings and Wheels Half Marathon in Scappoose depicts an airport and while I have participated in several car events at airports, I have never run at one. The location is definitely unique and is presented by the South Columbia County Chamber of Commerce. The second aspect to catch my eye was that the event is hosted by Uberthons, who are known to me for well marked courses and chip timing, both very important in my book. The third point was a hangar dance party with Hit Machine, who is an absolute blast, making the race on August 18th one to consider.

Registration is currently open, with the entry fee being $65. Registration closes on Friday the 17th. Finishers get a unique medal, a pancake breakfast and a pint. Students have a discounted rate of $40 while registrations after the 24th are $75. Prizes will be given to the top 3 overall and age group winners. There is a course time limit of 3.5 hours. The start time is 7:30, at the Scappoose Airport. There will be entertainment as well, with a cruise in and fly in occurring at the same time. They promise food and vendor booths as well as a beer garden. Also present will be a military vehicle display and kids activities.
