Run Oregon Test Kitchen: Eat Your Coffee Caffeinated Energy Bars

I love my coffee. I am a full-time mom to two active boys who also works as a boot camp instructor and a personal trainer, plus I’m on the board at my youngest son’s preschool. Did I mention that I also still need to find time to run? I need a boost to get through the day sometimes, and I’m always searching to find fuel that’s quick and convenient. The Eat Your Coffee Caffeinated Energy Bars came to the rescue!

The Eat Your Coffee snack bar is a delicious treat that is caffeinated with Fair Trade coffee. There’s approximately 100mg of caffeine in them which is roughly the amount in 1 cup of home brewed coffee. When compared to other energy bars, there’s less sugar, more caffeine, and real ingredients like dates, nut butter, and oats. These 70% organic bars are vegan as well as non-GMO, and they are free of gluten, soy, and dairy.

The coffee beans used for these bars are from a coffee farming cooperative in Nicaragua. Eat Your Coffee sources “single origin, organic, Fair-Trade, shade-grown coffee from Grounds For Change,” which is a family owned small batch coffee roasting company. Rest assured, you can stand behind this product.

How do they taste? Well, in a word, delicious. If you like flavored coffees, these should be right up your alley. I was sent all three of their flavors to try which were Fudgy Mocha Latte, Peanut Butter Mocha, and Salted Caramel Macchiato. They were all so yummy that I’d be hard-pressed to pick a favorite.

I had one of these at 5:00AM after a night of being up too late, which is a common occurrence. I downed the Fudgy Mocha Latte bar, went off for a run at 5:30AM, and then came home to 2  freshly awake kids. I felt ready to tackle the usual school routine and not as sluggish as I usually feel facing the same scenario. After I got the boys off to school, I went to a boot camp class and still felt pretty good. The bar gave me a jolt I get similarly from coffee but in a super convenient and tasty way.

The Eat Your Coffee bars can be found on Amazon or at select grocers. Type your zip code in here to find out who carries them near you. I can’t wait to buy some for my upcoming relays where sleep is pretty much an impossibility. There’s no better way to tackle hills at 1:00AM than to have an Eat Your Coffee bar.
