Tualatin Discovery Run is this Thursday

The Tualatin Discovery Run is this Thursday, September 28. This is a free, family-friendly group run and walk from Road Runner Sports at 7063 SW Nyberg Road in the Nyberg Woods Shopping Center, starting at 6:30p. Everyone checks the locations on the map (as shown above) and then sets out.

Last month, RRS provided pace group leaders for various running speeds and a walking group, which was actually a lot of fun as I was with my 5-year-old daughter on her bike. Group leaders stayed with their runners (or walkers) and circled from the fastest in the group to those bringing up the rear, so no one got lost.

To sign up, you can either show up any time between 5:30p and 6:30p on the 28th to sign up, or sign up online here to receive bonus raffle tickets when you check in. Because it’s the end of September, you’ll want to wear a reflective vest and bring a headlamp/Knuckle Lights so you’re more visible to cars.

Enjoying my beer after the August Discovery Run.

While there is a wide sidewalk on Nyberg, which crosses over I-5 and turns into Tualatin-Sherwood Road, the Discovery Trail is another way to get from the east side of the freeway to the majority of checkpoints on the west. This beautiful new-ish trail goes under the interstate and pops out right next to the Tualatin Library, just blocks from Tualatin Commons.

After the hour is up, participants return to RRS for a raffle and to enjoy their free beer or other treat. Last time, they had root beer floats! Be sure to bring some sweats to change into after the run as it’s getting colder these days. Another tip – bring packing or Scotch tape to organize your raffle tickets.

Hope to see you there!

About Kelly Barten (773 Articles)
I started the Run Oregon blog in February 2007, because I felt like running in Oregon and SW Washington deserved more positive coverage. I also wanted to level the playing field so that small, non-profit races could compete with big events; and to support LOCAL race organizers. I'm a Creighton Bluejay (undergrad) and an Oregon Duck (Sports Marketing MBA), and I live in Tigard with my husband and two kids. My "real job" is working for an incredibly awesome math textbook company doing marketing and production.
