Small Race Previews: 2017 Run For Resilience Ostomy 5k (Milwaukie) & Strides For CJD 5k (Portland)

The 3rd Annual Run For Resilience Ostomy 5k in Portland will be occurring on October 14th this year. This is a down-and-back course which starts at Riverfront Park in downtown Milwaukie and follows the historic Trolley Trail through sculpture gardens and scenic greenery onto a trail canopied by old trees.

The proceeds from this race will benefit the United Ostomy Associations of America, Inc (UOAA) to educate and support community awareness in regards to people living with ostomies like urostomy, ileostomy, and colostomy.

A t-shirt will be included in the $15 entry fee, so you can’t beat the price to do this fun race. There’s also a fundraising option to support the UOAA. All donations are tax deductible, so click here to start or support a Fundraiser.

There will be activities for the kids and opportunities to connect with suppliers and the local and national advocacy groups, some come check it out! There are only 107 spots left!

Another great cause to run for on October 14th can be found at the 3rd annual Strides For CJD 5k. This race supports the CJD Foundation General Fund, which provides advocacy, education, support, and research for Creutzfeldt-Jacob Disease (CJD.) This disease is a rare but fatal and rapidly progressive neurodengenerative disorder for which there is no treatment or cure. The CJD Foundation offers families a 7-day HelpLine, referrals, and annual conference, and support groups.

This 5k run/walk takes place at locations across the US and the CJD Foundation encourages you to participate in a virtual race if you can’t get to a Strides satellite location to do it otherwise. (Contact them here  to coordinate your own local event.) In addition to the 5k run/walk, there is a 0.3-mile Family Fun Stroll. Both of these will be on paved trails, and neither event is timed. Registrants will get a t-shirt and there will be a raffle for some great prizes as well as music entertainment. There will also be some pre- and post-race snacks available. There’s a fundraising option for this race as well.
